What you will be doing:

This job requirement will specifically focus on wood finish engineering. This will include, but not be limited to the following expertise. Knowledge of waterbased UV, waterbased air-dry and 100% UV wood coatings would be preferred. The applicant should also be familiar with the following wood finish equipment (wide belt/cross belt sanding machines, orbital sanding, Reciprocating and Rotary spray application machines, liquid spray application and pumping equipment, Rollcoating equipment, Convection and Infrared Ovens, Flatline and overhead conveyor systems, and UV curing equipment.


Under supervision, provides technical support for coatings related engineering activities.

Support consists of production support, process trouble-shooting and optimization, product development and implementation, technical systems development and administration, methodology development and administration, specialized testing, information and training services.


The Associate Finishing Engineer position is considered the entry-level Finishing Engineering position and will therefore involve assistance to Finishing Engineers, Senior Finishing Engineers, and the Manager. However, an Associate Finishing Engineer may coordinate certain coating related development and administration at the discretion of the Manager.

· Perform mathematical calculations.

· Requires interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to effectively transfer knowledge to others, including audiences of both technical and non-technical, some levels of management, and production employees.

· Requires presentation skills to achieve acceptance of ideas.

· Understanding of various coating types, their characteristics, principles of formulation, manufacture, and application. The ability to apply that knowledge to coordination of coatings and suppliers.

· Superior color vision preferred, required for Customize Administrator, knowledge of visual and instrumental color measurement principles and techniques.

· Understanding and working knowledge of the spectrum of physical testing for various coatings.

· Understanding of instrument calibration and verification principles.

· Understanding of scientific method, experimental control, etc.

· Understanding of production finishing, factors that affect paint application, material utilization, product quality, etc.

· Application ability with personal computers.

· Understanding of quality system requirements.

· Requires analytical and problem solving skills in a variety of engineering and/or scientific procedures.


Qualifications:

· A four year technical degree in a related field is preferred.

· A two year technical degree / certification and 3 - 6 years of experience in the F.T. Technician or equivalent position, or a high school diploma and 6 - 10 years of experience in the F.T. Technician or equivalent position may be considered as equivalencies.
