About this Opportunity
Our Options Engineering Teams are responsible for adapting Herman Miller's existing portfolio of products to fit the needs of our customers. They work with the full breadth of Herman Miller's product offerings to conceptualize unique design options. This fast-paced and collaborative team is dedicated to helping our customers do great things.
As an Options Engineer, you'll apply basic engineering principles, concepts, theories, and techniques in support of business objectives and in a developing capacity under direct supervision. You may provide fundamental engineering leadership and expertise. You may also conduct feasibility studies, determine manpower and cost estimates, and develop engineering criteria. You'll perform primary analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems, and components. You'll also apply originality, ingenuity, and knowledge of other disciplines in solving basic technical issues. Emphasis in your work will be placed on your team participation, ability to plan, and ability to achieve results on assigned projects.

Work under direct supervision. Your work will be reviewed after completion to evaluate the soundness of judgments involved.

You might be just who we’re looking for if you have . . .
An Engineering/Technical degree from an accredited program or two-year Technical degree in a related field with three years of applicable engineering experience.
Zero to two years of professional engineering experience.
A working knowledge of the Herman Miller Performance System (HMPS).
Demonstrated knowledge of Pro E, PDM Link, Performance Test requests/requirements, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Revu (Blue Beam), BOM Compare, BaaN, Ozone, and Slide Rule.
Knowledge of Herman Miller product and processes.
Exposure to project management concepts (may be essential for some assignments).
A basic knowledge in Lean principles and their application.
The ability to assess process concepts and determine where continuous improvement opportunities exist.
The ability to communicate effectively with people at various levels including Production, Engineering, and management, and the ability to work well with and develop a partnering relationship with other team members.
Basic knowledge in the use of common office automation, communication, software, tools, Herman Miller mainframe applications, and engineering-related software.
Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering expertise to solving problems.
The ability to effectively react to changing priorities and work flow at the direction of supervision and the ability to anticipate, recognize, and respond effectively to changes which affect project plans.
An overall basic business sense and an understanding of how decisions impact business results.
The ability to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodations.
