Emergency Management Specialist - Emergency Management * Days - 40hrs/wk

General Summary:

The Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for ensuring UMH-West Facilities are compliant with CMS and accrediting body requirements in four major categories: Emergency Operations Plan, Communication Plan, Policies and Procedures, and Training and Testing. This individual will coordinate multiple efforts amongst various leaders and caregivers in UMH-West facilities and the community at large to ensure UMH-West is ever ready for any emergency or disaster through methods of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This individual may also be called upon to assist with emergency management activities at other UMH-West/UMH-Sparrow regional locations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Bachelors degree in healthcare or related field and a minimum of 2 years experience in emergency management.
    • Associates degree in healthcare or related field and a minimum of 4 years experience in emergency management.
    • High School diploma/GED and a minimum of 6 years of emergency management.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and team building skills, with proven ability to influence across functional line.
  • Persuasive oral and written skills, as demonstrated in oral presentations and written reports required.
  • Flexible/adaptable with the ability to work with diverse groups of people and in many different situations.
  • Knowledge of accrediting body and CMS standards and survey process
  • Demonstrated skills in organizational assessment and analysis
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of the use of Microsoft word processing and spreadsheet applications

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare the Emergency Operations Plan for annual review and approval.
  2. Prepare the Emergency policies for annual review and approval.
  3. Prepare the 96 Hour Supply List for annual review and approval.
  4. Prepare the Communication Plan for annual review and approval.
  5. Prepare the Continuity of Operations Plan for annual review and approval.
  6. Prepare the Hazard Vulnerability Assessment for annual review and approval.
  7. Take lead role in mass notification system entry, process, and policy
  8. Maintain documentation for initial and annual training for caregivers, volunteers, and contractors.
  9. Prepare internal and external tabletop and functional drills/exercises for hospital and community at large.
  10. Prepare the After-Action Report for all drills/exercises conducted for hospital.
  11. Ensure compliance to accrediting body standards and elements of performance by maintaining necessary documentation and data to show compliance.
  12. Attend necessary webinars and coalitions related to emergency management.

  1. Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
