Department: ABO and Customer Solutions

Location: Ada, MI (Corporate)

What do we need:

We are looking for an eager Software Developer that wants to learn new things to assist in the development of future state technologies for the MAGIC platform.

What’s special about this team:

The delivery team working on the Bonus side of the MAGIC platform consists of a team with diverse responsibility made up of a mix of employees and contractors. This delivery team is part of a larger team supporting MAGIC Bonus. This team thrives on collaboration and working together to create the best solutions possible to support our Amway Business Owners across the globe. This team is a self-managed, hardworking group of high achievers. Most recently the MAGIC Bonus team has successfully launched MAGIC 2.1 in Korea and 4.0 in Taiwan in 2018 alone. The team will launch the implementation for Japan in the Fall of 2018. Along with the deployments the team continues to implement the MAGIC future state architecture.

How you would contribute to the role:

As an Associate Software Developer, you will be responsible for working with the team to develop the future state technologies for the MAGIC platform using agile methodologies. This environment promotes frequent collaboration with your teammates. You will be doing both front-end services and back-end Java development. You’ll work to build out the Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline and develop Proof of Concept builds to evaluate new technologies.

Daily, you will:

  • Update the team on your accomplishments and daily goals in the morning Stand-up meeting
  • Develop and test applications
  • Partner with your Senior Developer to increase your coding knowledge
  • Attend meetings as needed

To assist you in doing all of this, you will be given a “buddy” to help you get acclimated to the team and how they work together. You will also go through a class to teach you the business rules and the MAGIC platform. You will then be given small tasks, that gradually increase in complexity as your skills increase. Some of the technologies you will have access to are Docker, AWS, Tomcat, Splunk, Spring, and DynaTrace. If you do not have a background in Java, and are coming from a similar language like C#, Python, or Ruby, we can teach Java to you.

What skills and background will be important to be successful:

To be considered in this role, you must have a basic development background, such as that obtained during an internship, and an interest in DevOps. Bonus points if you have experience with Java and technologies such as Maven, Git, Jenkins, or Docker. To be successful, you must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal teamwork skills, and the desire to grow your career.
