Currently, Meijer is looking for a General Merchandise Team Leader. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of team members of the General Merchandise and HBC Departments, as well as ensuring the production of quality merchandise and service consistent with Meijer Standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • In charge of achieving sales, labor, supply expenses and margin by period for the General Merchandise and HBC Department plan for department

  • Maintaining a friendly selling approach to customers that is in line with commitment to the Meijer Friendly program

  • Developing and implementing plans for achieving departmental objectives and business plans

  • Following through on sales plans in full support of division merchandising programs

  • Planning and carrying out in-store promotions and interdepartmental tie-ins to maximize sales and create a selling atmosphere

  • Establishing and maintaining effective inventory control methods in all departments

  • Controlling ordering; avoiding overstocks; supporting administration

  • Requiring, through proper supervision, effective pricing of merchandise

  • Ensuring freshness of product by closely adhering to rotation and dating policy

  • Scheduling and organizing work force consistent with store sales

  • Controlling departmental expenses such as wages, utilities, supplies, etc.

  • Assisting in the selection, indoctrination, training and development of departmental personnel, utilizing division training programs

  • Planning and conducting weekly meetings with departmental personnel

  • Supervising Sanitation Program in compliance with Company standards

  • Being familiar with and working within framework of the stores

  • Keeping Store Manager informed of all activities within own area of responsibility

  • Instructing employees in the proper use of store equipment to ensure safety standards are accomplished

  • Maintaining self-development program to improve own personal knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to continue to upgrade own contribution to the store

  • Handling customer complaints quickly and efficiently in order to achieve customer satisfaction
