The Purchasing and Estimating Coordinator is responsible for sourcing materials, managing vendor relationships, and preparing accurate cost estimates for production jobs. This role is critical in ensuring efficient procurement and competitive quoting that supports the overall performance and profitability of the shop.Key Responsibilities:
Estimating – Critical Thinking | Collaboration | Technical Acumen
  • Review RFQs, blueprints, and job specs to determine accurate labor, material, and outsourcing needs.
  • Build data-driven cost estimates that consider shop capacity, material availability, and production flow.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to assess manufacturability and efficiency.
  • Deliver clear, well-documented quotes that support both customer needs and internal decision-making.
  • Analyze historical quote data to improve pricing consistency and competitiveness.

Purchasing – Negotiation | Decision-Making | Results Orientation
  • Source stainless sheet, bar, tube, and hardware per project specifications and stock requirements.
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships that prioritize lead time, quality, and cost.
  • Negotiate terms and pricing to maximize value while mitigating risk.
  • Manage inventory levels using a proactive approach aligned with production schedules.
  • Troubleshoot material availability issues with a solution-focused mindset to prevent downtime.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Technical Skills (Skills-Based):
  • 3+ years in purchasing and/or estimating in a sheet metal or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specs.
  • Working knowledge of stainless-steel grades and fabrication processes (cutting, forming, welding).
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and quoting tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; CAD/nesting familiarity is a plus.

Preferred Experience:

  • Basic knowledge of CAD or nesting software is beneficial but not required.
