Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) - Full and Part Time - 1st and 2nd Shift

Knowledge and Abilities - The ability to read/write comprehensive English and docu-ment observations. Must perform basic math. The ability to verbally communicate with patients, staff and general public in a manner that is understandable, must be honest, dependable and exhibit a warm, cheerful, caring manner. Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

 

  1. Provide Assistance with the Activities of Daily Living
  2. Assist Patients in Preventive, Therapeutic, and Restorative Nursing Procedures
  3. Adhere to Safety and Infection Control Policies and Procedures
  4. Communicate Effectively Orally and in Writing
  5. Maintain Patient Care Work Area in Clean Safe and Orderly Manner
  6. Promote Positive Public Relation for the Facility
  7. Perform Other Tasks as Required
  8. Attend Meetings as Required

 

INTERPRETATION OF RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Provide Assistance with the Activities of Daily Living
    1. Provide daily hygiene measures including bathing, oral hygiene, skin care, hair and nail care, as assigned and as required.
    2. Change bed linens as required.
    3. Dress and undress patients as needed.
    4. Serves food and fluids, per plan.
    5. Assist in feeding and providing oral fluids to patients.
    6. Responds to client requests.
  2. Assist Patients in Preventive, Therapeutic, and Restorative Nursing Procedures
    1. Take and record patient's vital signs and weights.
    2. Turns and repositions patients who require assistance.
    3. Transports patients using wheelchair, walkers, lifts and other assistive devices.
    4. Perform range of joint motion exercises daily as needed.
    5. Assist patients to ambulate, or use assistive devices.
    6. Assist the patient in bowel and bladder elimination activities and retraining programs.
  3. Adhere To Safety and Infection Control Policies and Procedures
    1. Maintain good personal hygiene and adhere to uniform requirement.
    2. Practice universal precautions.
    3. Perform cleaning of patient care area, care equipment, and utility rooms.
    4. Provides for the safety of the patients using safety devices identified on the care assignment.
    5. Report personal illness or skin lesions.
    6. Participates in orientation training and required hours of in-service programs annually.
    7. Report defective equipment or other potential safety hazards promptly.
    8. Adheres to Facility policies and procedures.
  4. Communicate Effectively Orally and In Writing
    1. Report physical or behavioral changes in the patient, accidents/incidents. immediately to Charge Nurse/Unit Manager.
    2. Document patient nutrition and fluid intake and outputs.
    3. Document daily on Facility forms and in Patient's medical record.
    4. Clarify questions regarding assignment with charge nurse.
    5. Maintain and safeguard entrusted confidential information.
    6. Control inappropriate feelings.
    7. Be flexible, receptive and adaptive to change.
  5. Maintain Patient Care Area and Nursing Work Areas in Clean, Orderly, and Safe Manner
    1. Use only approved items.
    2. Replace furniture to proper safe location.
    3. Handle equipment and supplies to avoid wastage or breakage.
    4. Use time effectively and efficiently.
  6. Promote Positive Public Relations for the Facility
    1. Display courteous, cooperative, helpful manner with patients, visitors and other staff.
    2. Use proper telephone etiquette.
    3. Represent the Facility in a positive manner.
    4. Maintain confidential information according to HIPAA guidelines.
  7. Perform Other Tasks as Required
    1. Assist other personnel when assignment completed.
    2. Knows and follows existing lines of communication and authority.
    3. Other - as designated by Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.
    4. Assures that patient rights are maintained at all times, reporting suspected deviations to immediate supervisor.
  8. Attend Meetings as Required
    1. Attend Staff Meetings as Scheduled.
    2. Attend other Meetings as required.

Have current CNA Certificate in good standing on file with the Michigan Nursing Assistant Registry, or completed an approved Michigan Nurse Aide training program and are eligible to test for clinical and knowledge skills testing to become certified within four months of hire. One year experience in long-term care, hospice care or health care setting desired.
