The Freight Cost Senior Analyst develops and maintains robust reporting to identify inbound freight savings opportunities. This includes publishing ad hoc, weekly and monthly financial reporting by distribution center, shipping lane, vendor, carrier, mode of transportation, etc. Works collaboratively with other internal and external teams to capitalize on the freight savings opportunities highlighted.
Develops and maintains tools the Freight Cost Analysts use to ensure GFS is securing accurate, market relevant freight allowances from product vendors. This includes leveraging industry data/trends to drive favorable FOB and Freight terms for the organization and establishing freight reschedules.
How you will make an impact:
- Supports the calculation and analysis of proposed adjustments in freight rates to determine changes in customer freight rate structure. Supports the maintenance and accuracy of the GFS freight cost system freight.
- Develops business and financial reporting from various data sources including but not limited to transportation management systems, corporate data files, warehouse management systems, purchase order systems, and cost applications.
- Compiles, evaluates and recommends improvements based on business and financial analytics such as transportation costs, type of merchandise and business volume.
- Collaborates with customers, suppliers and Gordon Food Service departments to support the business and financial components of contractual activities and freight management initiatives
- Analyzes Capstone processes along with operational and financial results to implement procedural and practice changes to improve operations and lower cost.
- Analyzes Gordon Food Service purchasing data and makes independent decisions regarding freight costing.
- Ensures accurate system freight costs through collaboration with other Capstone team members, Gordon Food Service departments, and product suppliers.
- Researches and analyzes historical data to ensure accurate freight costing.
- Generates, reviews and audits departmental financial reports.
- Provides daily guidance, support, and coverage to Freight Cost Analyst.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
When you will work:
- Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
- Hybrid Work Schedule: 4 days in office, 1 day from home.
What you'll bring to the table:
- Bachelor Degree in Business, Logistics, Accounting or Finance preferred.
- At least 5 years previous financial or supply chain management experience with an understanding of freight rates, costing, and information technology or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of food service distribution including the different costing/pricing methodologies
- Advanced Knowledge of freight costing components including hundredweight (cwt) calculations, line haul and accessorial expenses.
- High degree of analytical skills complemented with strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex costing scenarios to other internal and external parties in a clear and concise manner.
- Solution minded with strong reasoning skills, with the ability to develop customized yet scalable solutions to challenging situations
- Teamwork, interacts well with others, develops relationships, leads by example, and subject matter expert, etc.
- Self direction, time management, avoids distraction, repetition, prioritization, fluctuations in workload, ambiguity, and accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments and maintains confidentiality.
- Approaches others in a tactful manner and enjoys working in a cross-functional team environment.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel. Proficient in development of formulas, pivot tables, macros, CSV’s
