Currently, Meijer is looking for a Deli Team Leader. Plans, directs and supervises team members in the day to day operations of the Deli area. Manages Deli department operations, suggests changes to inventory, pricing and purchases when needed. Ensures appropriate service levels at the Deli counter to provide minimal wait time for customers. Responsible for the department staff training, assignments and scheduling.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervises and directs Deli team members

  • Responsible for scheduling, staffing selection, and hiring to achieve staffing needs

  • Ensures the Deli team is thoroughly trained in all aspects of their jobs and have completed all required training

  • Promotes succession planning by providing career paths, identifying development needs for the Deli team members and being involved with and accountable for promotion decisions
  • Documents and applies disciplinary actions and makes recommendations concerning discharge
  • Models exceptional, fast and friendly customer service
  • Communicates the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations

  • Responsible for all aspects of the profit and loss statement for the Deli department

  • Reviews sales goals, supply costs, stock loss/shrink results and goals

  • Reviews Customer Survey and customer feedback from previous day or week

  • Provides consistent and great quality products and services

  • Ensures Deli staff is trained on the various product offerings, push items, and product specifications to excel in satisfying the customer

  • Reliable and consistent attendance required

  • Manages and supervises team to:

    • Ensure fresh and appealing displays and products by checking codes, rotating products, and removing out of date products

    • Ensure shrink goals are met

    • Maintain correct Deli signage and pricing

    • Ensure that the Deli counter displays are properly stocked

    • Maintain back stock in good order

    • Ensure team members comply with all applicable health and sanitization procedures

    • Promote a safe work environment

    • Operate and sanitize all Deli equipment in a safe and proper manner

    • Answer department telephone calls and pages quickly with excellent telephone etiquette

    • Work closely with the Bakery and Produce departments to ensure customer satisfaction

    • Collaborate with Retail Specialist to ensure that Deli programs exceed customer expectations
    • Other daily tasks as required
    • Ensure proper usage of the production planner and fresh dashboard


  • High school diploma or its equivalent required
  • 2-3 years of related retail experience
  • 1 year of management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measures, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize time and manage the time for others
  • Demonstrated ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness
  • Demonstrated ability to answer customer questions in a clear and service oriented manner
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct suggestive selling
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization including SDITs, team members in hourly positions and team leaders.
  • Successful completion of all required certifications
  • ServSafe Certification
