Position Summary

The Materials Planner plays a critical role in supporting efficient manufacturing operations through the coordination of production schedules and material planning. This role ensures timely availability of raw materials and components, maintains optimized inventory levels, and facilitates cross-functional communication across departments. By aligning production capacity with demand and managing vendor relationships, the Materials Planner helps drive on-time delivery, reduce bottlenecks, and improve operational flow in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

· Production Scheduling

· Plan and release work orders with accurate traveler packets (work orders, quality plans, prints)

· Maintain and adjust daily production schedule based on labor, materials, and equipment availability

· Evaluate department and work center capacity, adjusting loads to maintain flow

· Maximize machine utilization and ensure efficient load balancing

· Monitor customer replenishment programs and manage safety stock in ERP (Global Shop)

· Track and report KPIs such as on-time delivery, earned hours, past-due orders, and throughput

· Purchasing Support

· Execute purchasing for assigned raw materials and components

· Communicate regularly with vendors on lead times, pricing, and delivery

· Monitor open POs and escalate issues to minimize disruptions

· Maintain accurate vendor and item data in ERP system

· Support customer stocking programs and align inventory with contract obligations

· Analyze material usage trends and align procurement with production demand

· Gather supplier performance data to support sourcing discussions and cost-saving initiatives

· Cross-Functional Communication & Support

· Communicate material shortages, delays, and schedule changes to stakeholders

· Participate in scheduling meetings with updates and recommendations

· Assist in rework/disposition processes with Quality and Inside Sales

· Coordinate engineering changes to manage inventory transitions

· Support ISO documentation for scheduling and capacity planning; assist in training

Requirements

Qualifications

· Required

· Associate degree, technical certification, or 5+ years of experience in manufacturing (preferably metal fabrication or job shop)

· Experience with production planning, scheduling, or purchasing

· Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and material specs

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP systems (Global Shop preferred)

· Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

· Effective communicator with strong cross-functional collaboration skills

· Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities

· Preferred

· Knowledge of purchasing processes: PO creation, expediting, vendor follow-up

· Familiarity with inventory management and replenishment strategies

· Understanding of ISO procedures and documentation standards

Physical Requirements

Primarily office-based with occasional shop floor interaction. Prolonged computer use with close vision requirements. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
