Service Line Coordinator - Operating Room * Days - 40hrs/wk

Shift: Days

General Summary:

The Service Line Coordinator (SLC) is an integral member of the intra-operative team that serves as a content expert at the bedside and reinforces practices and principles the department educator has taught, to enhance staff knowledge and ensure patient safety. The SLC functions in a supervisory role holding staff, contracted providers, and vendors accountable to policies and professionalism. The SLC is accountable for assisting in the oversight of department finances and actively participate in cost-reduction strategies. The SLC maintains collaborative relationships with providers and ancillary departments with a primary focus on preventative strategies related to patient/staff safety and efficient operations. The SLC support staff in troubleshooting issues or concerns in the operative room to ensure optimal outcomes are achieved.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Michigan Registered Nurse licensure required.
  • Two (2) years of nursing experience required with two (2) years of operating room experience strongly preferred.
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) preferred
  • Efficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Serves as liaison and first line of contact for service line surgeon utilizing effective communication and customer service excellence.
  2. Manages surgical schedule for coordination of flow (e.g., conflicts, efficiencies, utilization, consolidations, and resource allocation).
  3. Assists with team assignments addressing competencies, service line education and development, staff expertise balancing, etc.
  4. Assists with case coordination between Central Processing (CPD), Materials Management, vendors, etc.
  5. Performs Surgeon Preference Card standardization and maintenance.
  6. Established processes for instrument tray creation, standardization, and ongoing improvements.
  7. Completes ongoing staff and physician rounding (e.g., daily huddles, clinical direction, etc.)
  8. Advises regarding service line specific questions during off hours, weekends, and holidays.
  9. Assures policy and procedure accountability by staff and physicians.
  10. Collaborates with Materials Management, CPD, and OR Educator regarding service line specific vendor requests, supplies, instruments, equipment, and trials.
  11. Contributes to budget development and monitoring of service line specific costs and cost reduction planning and implementation.
  12. Provides service line education and support across perioperative service areas and patient care floors to maximize safety and minimize risk.
  13. Completes off shift, weekend and holiday follow up and debriefing to assure smooth and safe patient care.
  14. Participates in staff evaluations, behavior monitoring and counseling, as well as staff mentoring and leadership development
  15. Assists in planning, implementation and evaluation of quality management, infection control and compliance readiness.
  16. Assists in planning, development and implementation of process improvements and change processes.
  17. Serves in patient care and clinical roles as needed as well as other leadership roles as assigned.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
