Currently, Meijer is looking for a Team Leader Trainee. The individual selected for this position will be exposed to a variety of retail tasks related to product, leadership and customer service. The individual will provide the customer a quality shopping experience through services and in-stock conditions. The Department Team Leader Trainee will deliver remarkable customer service in the department by achieving our core values through team execution; i.e. "Provide an easy shopping experience for our customers in the department."

Key Deliverables:

  • Delivering a team that consistently meets goals for productivity and customer service
  • Writing schedules for the department
  • Responsible for all selection of team members in the department
  • Mentoring and coaching team members
  • Ensuring training curriculum is completed and up to date for all department team members
  • Collaborating with Shrink Analyst on department stockloss concerns and ensures correct mark down procedures per policies
  • Spending 90% of shift on sales floor to communicate with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service and condition is provided
  • Reviewing inventory levels and write orders
  • Reviewing all Production Planners daily
  • Ensuring daily set times are met
  • Reviewing daily department sanitation
  • Reviewing all paper work; i.e. daily and period inventories, temperature checks and zone recoveries
  • Monitoring and ensuring that all financial goals are being met
  • Conducting applicant interviews to ensure proper staffing levels
  • Executing and maintaining all department planograms
  • Reviewing the department merchandising standards so they are met
  • Other department specific duties as assigned


  • Prior retail experience
  • Familiarity with personal and food safety procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to work flexible shifts
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, vendors and office support staff
  • Possesses strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to effectively communicate and delegate
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills to include the ability to analyze financial data
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Ability to recruit and develop a talented team with attention to staffing goals
  • Successful completion of all required Team Leader and department related training
  • Working knowledge of safety and sanitation standards to include safety audits, comprehensive food audits, etc.
  • Understanding of financials (sales, labor, shrink, margin)
