This part-time position will work Monday-Friday, 8:00a-1:00p. General Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Patient Access Manager, the Medicare compliance specialist is responsible to inform a Medicare beneficiary or their legal representative of their appeal rights at the time of admission and discharge to patients admitted to the hospital.                                   Requirements: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.College Education: 1-2 years preferred.Certified Healthcare Associate Certification (CHAA) preferred.2-3 years prior experience in Hospital, Medical Registration/Billing experience required or equivalent medical schooling.Medical Terminology preferred.Knowledge of CPT-4 and ICD-9/10 recommended.Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services regulations preferred.          Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Inform the beneficiary/legal representative of the Important Medicare Message of their discharge and appeal rights.Present the initial notice (Important Message from Medicare) at the time of the admission but no later than two calendar days of admission or not more than seven calendar days before admission.  Present the follow-up copy at discharge, but no more than two calendar days before discharge.Obtain beneficiary or legal representative signatures and date the notice, a signed copy is given to the patient/representative.Follow-up with legal representative if patient is unable to comprehend or sign notice.Completes Epic work queues daily.Scans all appropriate forms and documentation into Epic document list for Corporate Compliance.Responsible to maintain a working knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations that impact areas of responsibility.Collect patient co-pays, deductibles, and any outstanding balance accounts.Assists patient registration and financial counselor when needed.Ability to use judgment in all situations.
