General Summary: As a key member of the Finance team, the Controller formulates, recommends and administers organization-wide financial policies, sharing responsibility for the creation and execution of financial goals and objectives. He or she interacts with staff members across the organization to resolve issues of financial processing and reporting. This position also oversees interaction with regulatory and governmental agencies to assure regulatory compliance of financial reporting, auditing and other fiscal compliance issues.   Coordinating the review and preparation of financial reports and analyses, the Controller provides timely, accurate and actionable financial data. The position is responsible for ensuring that the financial statements of the organization are fairly stated and conform to generally accepted accounting principles and statutory accounting principles. He or she continually evaluates changes in systems and processes to maintain strong internal controls. Requirements:A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.A CPA or MBA is strongly preferred. A minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively more responsible experience in financial management, including accounting, budgeting, financial planning and auditing, preferably in a hospital or related health care setting.Strong analytical and technical skills in general accounting principles, standards, regulations and tax.Knowledge of and experience with the financial accounting aspects of various payment mechanisms, including managed care payment mechanisms.Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and an executive demeanor to interact effectively with internal and external organizational stakeholders on sensitive and/or complex topics.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Critically examines processes and policies and make recommendations for process improvement. The ability to listen actively and respond to fellow employees and customers in a timely, competent manner. The ability to provide open and honest communication to peers, staff and superiors with integrity as well as the ability to communicate and explain financial information to the Finance team, senior management and staff.Demonstrated ability to set and maintain high standards and the capability and desire to serve as a mentor to Finance staff.Understanding of cost accounting principles and practices with an emphasis in activity based costing.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a hands-on manner, adjusting to issues as needed in a dynamic work environment. The ability to prioritize and effectively anticipate and respond to issues as they arise.Ability to work in a team environment and a commitment to superior customer service.Team orientation and ability to work with executives, managers, physician leaders, and staff to achieve individual and mutual goals in a growing organization.Strong technical skills with the ability to put in place and manage internal controls.Ability to interact effectively with management, staff, external agencies and other entities, clearly articulating the strategy and goals of the Finance Department. Ability to organize, plan and implement various organization-wide financial activities.Willingness to take calculated risks to help drive change throughout the organization.Ability to keep abreast of trends, legislation and regulations to ensure Metro Health is in compliance with the latest regulations and make recommendations for necessary changes.Proven ability to develop, initiate, communicate and implement plans and ideas to improve the organization’s overall performance.Highly developed analytical skills.Willingness and ability to delegate responsibility to senior subordinates, allowing them room to identify ways and means to accomplish specific goals and objectives.
