Job Title:   Merchandise Planner
 
Description:   PURPOSE
This position creates, reviews, communicates, and revises the pre-season and in-season comprehensive merchandise financial plans to manage the business by maximizing inventory, sales, and profitability.

OVERVIEW
Create, manage, and update 18-month financial sales and inventory plans for all departments, sub departments, and classes within MC Sports. Manage and plan merchandise inventory position strategy to drive departmental sales, inventory, profit, and turnover objectives. Provide in season financial projections and strategies. Identify risks and opportunities to maximize profits. Drive and/or contribute to projects resulting in improved departmental efficiencies.

DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain merchandise financial sales, gross margin, and inventory plans at a weekly level on a seasonal or annual basis within the required time frame
• Develop and communicate a comprehensive pre-season planning strategy that identifies opportunities and risks in all levels within the merchandise hierarchy
• Actualize and reforecast business in-season based on current performance and present revised projections and recommendations to senior management
• Perform weekly, monthly, and quaterly review of actual performance and trends against targets; make observations, recommendations, and communicate opportunities and risks to DMM and buyers
• Partner with DMM to communicate to buyers the departmental level financial merchandising plans and strategies to support the financial objectives
• Conduct regular monthly meetings with the buyer teams in order to convey opportunities and risks and create action that will increase sales and meet turnover objectives
• Develop and execute the merchandise assortment and inventory strategies
• Develop and maintain reporting analysis to support the allocation and merchant teams
• Support the allocation and merchant teams with unit forecasts as needed
• Maintain and create Stratum templates as needed to support the allocation and merchant teams.
• Responsible for any other duties, tasks, or special projects as assigned.

 
Requirements:   TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university; or four or more year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience management. Multiple years experience in merchandise planning – successful use of JDA Enterprise Planning or Arthur Planning preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group managers, clients, vendors, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Strong analytical skills along with superior critical thinking skills. Ability to prioritize projects.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.

The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.

The associate must be able to travel on a limited basis by automobile or airplane.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
