Red Cross volunteers serve
local community needs by helping people in emergencies,
providing half the nation's blood supply, teaching
first aid and CPR courses, delivering emergency messages to
members of the military, organizing
programs for the elderly, for the youth.
AmeriCorps
is a network of national service programs that engage
more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive
service to meet critical needs in education, public
safety, health, and the environment.;
Habitat brings
together people with resources and people in need
to build simple, decent, affordable houses. The homes
are sold to those in need at no profit, through no-interest loans.
The Points
of Light Foundation, founded in 1990 by former President
George Bush, is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit
organization that promotes volunteerism. It is the
nation’s leading advocate for and authority
on volunteering.
