Custom Profile is seeking Production Material Handler.

Are you looking for a Forklift Driver role?  Want to be part of a team that  participates in the development and implementation of sound material handling practices to support Total Customer Satisfaction of both internal and external customers?  We are looking for a candidate that will insure that all incoming and outgoing products in manufacturing are accurately documented and properly identified, moved and stored.

Custom Profile is an employee-owned company that develops and manufactures specialty thermoplastic profile extrusions and sub-assemblies with locations in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Camden, SC and Juarez, Mexico. Our in-house tooling design and fabrication allows for complete control of quality and reduced lead times. The company boasts a blue-chip customer base, including MillerKnoll, Haworth, Hon/Allsteel, Steelcase, Whirlpool, Electrolux, GE Appliance, 3M and others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manage central material system activities; work with supervisors, set-ups and extrusion operators regarding daily schedule and material changes. Operate industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Support extrusion and finishing departments with material/equipment moves. Make sure extrusion lines do not run out of materials and finishing areas are changed over promptly and any materials needed are supplied in a timely manner to eliminate any un-necessary downtime. 
  • Maintain accurate inventory controls by adhering to CPI procedures and perform material handling functions such as documentation and recordkeeping in a timely manner.
  • Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, racks, trays and shelves. Remove sample materials and mark them with identifying tags/information.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, by following daily housekeeping and 5S standards. Support employees with value-added activities. Continuous improvement and 5S. 
  • Communicate all job orders and their status to other material handlers at shift change

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of material handling experience required; a suitable combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Strength in the following areas required:

  • Microsoft Office (word, outlook, excel)
  • Basic Math Skills
  • Problem Solving
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)

Experience in the following areas is preferred:

  •  5S/Lean Manufacturing/Kanban
  •  ERP/MRP Experience
  •  Bar Code Scanning Experience
  •  Previous Forklift License

Physical Demands: 

  • Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift/move up to 100 lbs.
  • The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
  • This employee works in the warehouse and loading docks which may be subject to cold and hot working conditions.
  • Safety glasses, hearing protection and closed toe shoes must be worn on the production floor
